Hi, my name is prathish..i'm a production engg graduate (similar to mechanical).. due to my one and half year experience in IT...i like to do MS in computer science / information technology...Is it possible for me to proceed as i don't have IT background in my under graduate??? If I can..do i need a proper project ?? Is there any GRE cut off for the same scenario ??

Yes you can pursue Masters in Computer Science but you won't be apply to popular universities for this program as you do not have bachelors in the related field. Even if you have 1400 on GRE on higher you would still not be eligible to apply to popular universities.
You would have to have a strong reason to switch your major at this time which has to be explained in your Statement of purpose which you would have to write for University.
