Career in field of electronics and computers are equally rewarding and has bright career prospects. Students should choose there career considering there interest in particular field. Moreover recession is a temproary phase and not permanent. IT industry or any other industry will boom again and demand for skilled and knowledgble people in any field will never end.

If looking for career in IT can pursue MCA. If looking for career in electronics can specialize in field of VLSI, embedded, communication etc.

Students having basic programming skills in object oriented programming language like C++ can go for course in Java. Programming can certainly give you lucrative career.

Traditionally hardware and networking field had less percentage of girls so this might be the notion in your parents mind but girls are coming in abundance in these fields now a days and can get IT jobs in multinational companies like those of network and system engineers. Students can also opt for teaching jobs in these fields.

Moreover it would be better to go for classroom courses rather then online course unless there is some constraints in attending the classes.
