I received a student visa to the United States last term, but had to defer admission due to personal reasons. I now wish to start my studies at the same university for which I received my visa earlier. Do I need to apply for a new visa?

You need not re-apply for a new visa, provided you are going to the same University and have a valid Form I-20, even if the SEVIS number differs on the new I-20.
