The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) conducts a Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) every year for admission to its B-Tech and other courses offered at the IIT Mumbai, IIT Kanpur, IIT Delhi, IIT Chennai, IIT Kharakpur, IIT Guwahati, and IIT Roorkee. Apart from IIT, Institute of Technology- Banaras Hindu University, Varanasi, and ISM Dhanbad, also consider JEE test scores for their admission process. The number of seats available in total is about 5500 for which 3, 00,000 candidates sit every year. IIT JEE Test Patterns JEE consists of preliminary examination (screening test) and main examination. Only those candidates, who qualify the screening test, are eligible to appear in the main examination. There are two question papers, each of three hours duration. Both the question papers consist of three separate sections on Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics. Questions in these papers are of objective type. There is a negative marking for each incorrect answer. The syllabus of the examination is based on topics covered by the CBSE Board Examination (AISSCE) and the ISC Board Examination, though all topics of the AISSCE and the ISC are not included in the JEE syllabus. IIT JEE Eligibility A candidate can take JEE only twice, in consecutive years Candidates appearing for JEE-2008 should have either passed the qualifying examination (10+2 Level) or should be appearing in 2008 Candidates should not have accepted admission by paying full fees at any of the IITs, IT-BHU, Varanasi and ISM, Dhanbad, through earlier JEE Minimum marks required in the qualifying examination Note: The percentage of marks awarded by the Board will be treated as final. If the Board does not award the percentage of marks, it will be calculated based on the marks obtained in all subjects listed in the mark sheet. Age limit Only those candidates, whose date of birth falls on or after October 01, 1983, are eligible to appear in JEE-2008. (Upper age limit-25 years). In the case of SC, ST, and PD candidates, the upper age limit is relaxed by 5 years. (Upper age limit-30 years). Tips and Strategies It is always a good idea to start preparing for IIT-JEE at the beginning of 11th standard. However there is a way out if you are among those who started late Try to capture at least 80 % of the total syllabus. However, if you have started your preparation late then it is always a good idea to cover minimum 60% of the total course and be thorough with it instead of trying of to study the entire curriculum Incorporate difficult topics if you already have a sound understanding of them. If not, start with the easier topics and master them. Once you are done with the relatively easier and interesting topics, tackle the difficult ones Make sure that you use the right reference and study material as it can make a tremendous difference to your scores. It is recommended to study from the books which contain numerous solved questions. Focus on the method of solving the problems instead of simply mugging up the answers Spend the initial few months in revising the basic concepts learnt in standard 9th and 10th Ensure that you study concepts like algebra, mechanics and stoichiometry extensively as not only are they high scoring but they also form the basis of several other topics At the time of examination avoid the urge to start solving the questions as soon as you receive the paper. Instead, quickly scan the paper and mark the questions you can easily answer. Begin with them After you are done with the questions you knew by heart, handle others. This not only would increase your confidence level and help to keep the nervousness at bay, it also creates a good impression on the examiner Dates and Deadlines Date of issuing forms: 23rd November to 4th January Date for receipt of forms : Early January Date of entrance exam : Mid April more info please check-IIT-JEE COACHING.
