A 'BITS-HP Labs India PhD Fellowship' has recently been announced by HP Labs India in collaboration with Birla Institute of Technology and Science - Pilani (BITS-P). The intention is to advance relevant research in India in the areas of information and communication technologies. Chosen candidates can pursue three years PhD research with BITS, Pilani. During the period of study, candidates will have access to the HP Labs India facilities in Bangalore.

The scholarship will initially be offered for one year. Financial assistance will be renewed each year on the basis of performance in studies and research. All academic related expenses will be borne by HP Labs India and a monthly stipend of Rs. 20,000 will also be provided to the candidates. Living expenses amounting to an additional Rs. 20,000 will also be given when candidates come to work in Bangalore.

Funding covers the following activities:


  • Expense for attending one selected international conference
  • Presenting a research paper

Eligibility:

Applicants must hold a Master's degree in engineering or technology

Must be interested in doing research work in the following areas:


  • Document image processing
  • Human computer interfaces
  • Multimodal systems
  • Human computer information retrieval
  • Peer to peer systems

This seems to be a very big opportunity for the PhD aspirantsin the areas of information and communication technologies. Not only the stipend amount is huge but the company offering these scholarships is definitely a dream place to work for many students across the entire world.
