Bringing a major sign of relief for thousands of students appearing in the West Bengal Joint Entrance Examination (WBJEE) in 2009, the West Bengal Joint Entrance Examination Board (WBJEEB) has decided to do away with the upper age limit for candidates appearing in the WBJEE.

Any student above the age of 17 years can appear in the JEE examination. There will be no upper age limit except for the Marine Engineering course for which the upper age limit is 20 years.

Last year the board decided to fix the upper age limit to 24 years for both medical and engineering entrance examination in the state, a decision which was not welcomed with the students.
There is no upper age limit prescribed by the Medical Council of India (MCI) or the All India Engineering Entrance Examination, (AIEEE) so the board decided to do away with its earlier decision which raised objection from many.

The board has also formed separate committees to look into the infrastructure of the examination centres, publication of prospectus and admit cards.
