New action plan for student safety in Australia

The repercussions on the recent attacks on Indian students are being felt by Australian universities. And this can be perceived by a dip of 5.5% in the applications this year for the July session. With more than 20,000 Indian students enrolling into Australian universities every year, loss of applications volume from the Indian subcontinent would be a heavy loss for Australian universities.

For the first time in its history, the IITs are faced with an unusual problem. The HRD Ministry had insisted on reserving seats in premier engineering and medical colleges as a way to ensure equal opportunity to the deprived sections of the society. But what they didn't take into account was the possibility of these seats not been filled. And this is exactly what happened.

Unemployed Engineering Graduates!

Bangalore, called the Silicon Valley of the East produces about 25,000 engineers every year but to the dismay of many about 30% of the lot produced is not skilled enough to be employed. They possess least knowledge about their subjects of study and even unclear about their career goal in the field of engineering.

The reasons cited are many ranging from curriculum not effective enough; focus on cramming of content of books to even teachers not devoting enough time and studying engineering due to peer or family pressure.
