Most of the Law universities/institutes conduct entrance test on the basis of which students are enrolled for law courses. However, different law universities/institutes conduct separate entrance tests to admit students. The details of the same are given below:
Course Structure
LLB
- Considered a professional course, comprising practical legal training and the teaching of legal theory.
- Includes tutorials, seminars, and moot courts.
Eligibility
Aspiring students of Law need to be proficient in analytical reasoning, current events of national and international importance with special reference to law, general sciences, history and geography of the country, Indian policy and economy.
The three-year LLB degree course requires a minimum of 50% marks in any discipline. Some universities may insist on a combination of merit and testing. More than 500 colleges in India offer the LLB professional degree course. National Law School of India University, Bangalore, Law Faculty, Delhi and NALSAR University of Law, Hyderabad are among the premier institutes offering this degree.
The features of the five-year integrated law programme include:
- 10+2 with 50 per cent passing marks.
- The upper age limit for admission to the five year law programs is usually 20 years (22 years for SC/ST).
- Selection is made on the basis of an entrance test which includes objective test papers on general awareness and legal aptitude.
LLB qualified graduates can either opt for work or decide to study further.
The post-graduation (LLM/ ML) degree course is also offered by several institutes in India. The duration of the course is generally 2 years. The course module consists of several dissertations apart from the main streams of study.
Other legal studies options available to students are:
- Bachelor of General Laws (BGL) - This is a very commonly offered course. Once graduates complete three years of study, they get an LLB degree.
- Bachelor of Social Legal Science/Social Legislation (BLS) - A three year course offered after 10+2 at University of Pune, Jalgaon.
- Labour laws and Personnel Management (MLPM) – A two year course for graduates with minimum 50%marks.
- Master of Business Laws (MBL) - A two year course for graduates with minimum 45% marks at NLSIU (distance learning course) and at University of Lucknow (full time course). Graduates have to be CA/ICWA/CS qualified for this course.
- PGD in Human Rights Law - This correspondence course is offered by the National Law School to graduates.
