India has numerous engineering colleges, some of which have gained recognition across the world for their high quality education. Most of these colleges take an admission test and students are granted admission on the basis of merit. Details of these tests are given below-
The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) conducts a Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) every year for admission to its B-Tech program and other courses offered at the IIT Mumbai, IIT Kanpur, IIT Delhi, IIT Chennai, IIT Kharakpur, IIT Guwahati, and IIT Roorkee campuses. Apart from the IITs, Institute of Technology- Banaras Hindu University, Varanasi, and ISM Dhanbad, also take into consideration the JEE test score for enrolling students.
There are approximately 5,500 seats available in total for which 3, 00,000 candidates sit every year.

Note: The percentage of marks awarded by the Board will be treated as the final count. If the Board does not award the percentage of marks, it will be calculated based on the marks obtained in all subjects as listed in the mark sheet.

IIT JEE Test Pattern
JEE consists of 2 rounds -- the preliminary examination (screening test) and the main examination. Only those candidates who qualify in the screening test are eligible to appear in the main examination.
There are two question papers, each of three hours duration. Both the question papers consist of three separate sections on Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics. Questions in these papers are of objective type. Incorrect answer would be penalized by negative marking.
The syllabus of the examination is based on topics covered by the CBSE Board Examination (AISSCE) and the ISC Board Examination. It should be noted that all topics of the AISSCE and the ISC are not included in the JEE syllabus.
