Pursuing MBBS from Manipal University

There is no doubt that practising medicine enjoys a reputation of an ultimate career of nobility and respect through ages. Every year thousands of students appear for various medical entrance tests like CBSE, AFMC, BHU, DPMT or AIIMS etc to get admission in their dream college and become doctors. Apart from these medical entrance tests there is one more not so known ENAT entrance test (EPSI National Admission Test) for admission to medical colleges.


Manipal University and Sikkim University has joined the ENAT-2009 examinations conducted by EPSI (Education Promotion Society for India) for all its PG & UG programmes in medicine. The candidates wanting to pursue MBBS can sit for the ENAT examination for admission to Manipal University. Based on their application to the University, they would be eligible for the admission process on the basis of ENAT scores/results.


Kasturba Medical College, KMC, a constituent college of Manipal University is recognised by Medical Council of India and has exchange programmes with Loma Linda University USA, Operation Eye Sight Universal Canada, Tay Side University Dundee and University of Minnesota, Minneapolis, USA.


MBBS Programme

The MBBS programme of KMC is of four and a half year plus one year of compulsory rotating internship. During the course of these four and a half years, students who get selected for an MBBS course have to study several subjects which include anatomy, biochemistry, physiology, dermatology, obstetrics and gynaecology, forensic medicine and toxicology, microbiology, pathology, pharmacology, anaesthesiology, community medicine, medicine, ophthalmology, orthopaedics, paediatrics, psychiatry and surgery.


Eligibility: You need to pass your 10+2 or equivalent with Physics, Chemistry, Biology and English and a minimum of 55% marks in Physics, Chemistry and Biology subjects.

Admissions are done on the basis of rank in an all India ENAT. Only candidates who have secured minimum of 50% marks taken together in Physics, Chemistry and Biology in ENAT are considered for admissions to MBBS course in KMC.


ENAT Pattern: The test duration of ENAT is of 2.30 hours and consists of 240 multiple choice questions (MCQ) of the objective type. The approximate distribution of questions is as follows: Physics - 60 questions, Chemistry - 60 questions, Biology - 80 questions, English and General Aptitude - 40 questions.


The test papers in Physics, Chemistry, Biology and General English includes questions based on the 10+2 syllabus followed by major 10+2 Boards/Universities ENAT Centres: The exam centres of ENAT are Ahmedabad, Bangalore, Bhopal, Bhubaneshwar, Chandigarh, Chennai, Coimbatore, Delhi, Ernakulam, Gangtok, Guwahati, Hyderabad, Jaipur, Kolkata, Kota, Lucknow, Manipal, Mangalore, Mumbai and Pune.


PG Programme

Kasturba Medical College of Manipal University also offers post graduate MD and MS programmes in medicine. The duration of PG medical programmes is three years (the duration of MD and MS courses is two years for those with a two year recognised diploma in the same speciality). The duration of all PG diploma courses is two years.


MD: The MD programmes are in Anaesthesiology, Anatomy, Biochemistry, Community Medicine, Dermatology, Venereology &Leprosy, Forensic Medicine, General Medicine, Hospital Administration, Microbiology, Paediatrics, Pathology, Pharmacology, Physiology, Psychiatry, Radio-diagnosis, Radio-therapy


MS: the MS programmes are in General Surgery, Obstetrics & Gynaecology, Opthalmology, Orthopaedics, Otorhinolaryngology.


PG Medical Diploma: KMC also gives PG medical diploma in Anaesthesiology, Clinical Pathology, Child Health, Dermatology, Venereology & Leprosy, Obstetrics & Gynaecology, Opthalmology, Orthopaedics, Otorhinolaryngology, Psychiatry and Radio-diagnosis.


Up to 25% of total number of postgraduate degree and diploma seats are reserved for candidates who have studied and passed their MBBS from Manipal University or sister institutions, against a 3 years service agreement to serve Manipal University or sister institutions after completion of the course.


Today Manipal University (of which KMC is a constituent college) degrees are recognised in all the countries. The physical facilities for research work and student amenities have been steadily developed over the years. The 200 acre campus of KMC Manipal has consistently been ranked among the top 10 medical colleges in the country.
