The Australian Department of Immigration and Citizenship sets a level of minimum requirements to allow international students to undertake courses of their choice.

Major requirements include your financial background and English language proficiency.

Australian Student visa is divided into multiple categories with 'main course of study' and 'nationality' as the primary criteria. It includes primary and secondary school courses, vocational education and training, higher education, post-graduate research, non-award studies and also student-guardians.

How to apply for a Visa?

Your passport country and your course of study determine the visa-assessment level. Similarly, each category of student visa is designed for specific needs for prospective international students intending to undertake educational programs in Australian institutions.

Australian Visa authorities decide your eligibility for a student visa with a preliminary assessment. You should provide an ’Offer of a place in a course' letter from the concerned education institute to the visa processing office. A Confirmation of Enrolment certificate (CoE) is a proof stating enrolment in your studies.

It is necessary to have an acceptance for a full-time study with an Australian educational institute before applying for a student visa. You can submit an initial visa application with payment of a non-refundable visa charge.

You can apply for a student visa if

  • You are accepted for full-time study in a registered course or part of a registered course.
  • You are financially capable of supporting your travel, tuition and living expenses and are also equipped to support your spouse and dependent children, even if they are not travelling with you to Australia.
  • You meet certain health requirements. You may still need to undergo a health examination based on the expected length of stay and health condition in your native country.
  • You have sound English language skills.
  • You have a sound academic record and history.
  • You are free of debts to the Australian Government or have arranged to pay them off, if there are any outstanding liabilites.
  • You have given a declaration to respect Australian values and obey the laws of Australia.
  • You can uphold all visa conditions while studying and living in Australia .
