The National University of Juridical Sciences (NUJS) was established in1999. It is permanently affiliated to the Bar Council of India. The Hon’ble Chief Justice of India is the Chancellor of NUJS and is also the Chairman of its highest governing body, the General Council. NUJS strives to pursue holistic legal education in order to prepare its graduates for the diverse worlds of litigation, corporate legal practices, academia and legal research. Due emphasis is given to clinical legal education in order to equip the students with knowledge, skill and values to promote social justice through law.

The University offers five-year integrated B.A. / B.Sc. LL.B (Hons.), and two-year LL.M programmes. Besides, the M.Phil, Ph.D and LL.D programmes in law are also taught. Located at a prime area in the Salt Lake City of Kolkata, the University Campus has one academic and three residential blocks. The academic block is named after Dr. B.R. Ambedkar. It has everything a modern university ought to have - a host of class rooms, seminar halls, conference rooms, and a well-stocked air-conditioned library with access to internet, printing and photocopying. LAN service is extended to most of the rooms in the hostels

Physical infrastructure at NUJS also includes an on-campus Bank, a canteen, state-of-the-art kitchens at the hostels. Health care, sports and recreational facilities help students relax. there are many cultural societies operating within the University, which provide students with a creative outlet.

The NSUJ library is one of its kinds. The library subscribes to a large number of periodicals and journals. It is well-equipped with a substantial collection of CD-ROMS, and access to legal databases such as SCC, Grand Jurix, and Manupatra Online.
