Among the temples of modern India designed by Jawaharlal Nehru, was AIIMS, a centre of distinction in the medical sciences. All India Institute of Medical Sciences was established in order to accelerate the pace of medical education and research in India. In 1956 it came into being as an autonomous institution through an Act of Parliament to serve as a premier institute looking after the nation's expanding health care needs.
All-India Institute of Medical Sciences offers various programs in medical and para-medical courses at Undergraduate and Post-graduate levels maintaining a high standard of Medical Education in India. Since the time of its inception it has brought together educational facilities of the highest order to train its students in all important branches of medicine and has achieved self-sufficiency in Post-graduate Medical Education.
