Charles Darwin University was established in 1951 as the University offering the territory’s first adult education classes where supervised study classes were provided for apprentices, as well as typing, shorthand, French and subjects for public service examinations. Earlier known as the Northern Territory University, it came to be known by its present name in the year 2003 after its merger with the Alice Springs’ Centralian College becoming the only Australian university to offer the full spectrum of education options from senior secondary through to Vocational Education Training, undergraduate and postgraduate degree programs. The University offers a fresh approach to training, education, research and knowledge application and aspires to be recognized internationally as a centre of excellence in Indigenous and cross cultural knowledge, tropical knowledge and desert knowledge.

Alice springs campus

Alice Springs Campus is the largest campus of the university, situated in Darwin. Darwin is a youthful, multicultural, cosmopolitan, and robust, tropical city, which enjoys a close interaction with the peoples of Southeast Asia. The campus offers modern facilities surrounded by native gardens with views of the MacDonnell Ranges. The multi-sector campus has a library, electronic Learning Resource Centre and extensive facilities for tourism and hospitality students. Other facilities include real-world trade workshops and a 250-seat theatre that is often used by the local community. The University provides sporting and recreational services through CDU Sport that enhances university life and helps students become better acquainted with fellow students and staff through a variety of fun sport and recreational activities. The University provides on-campus accommodation through its North Flinders International House. Students can also look for accommodation close to the campus area.
