Charles Darwin University was established in 1951 as the University offering the territory’s first adult education classes where supervised study classes were provided for apprentices, as well as typing, shorthand, French and subjects for public service examinations. Earlier known as the Northern Territory University, it came to be known by its present name in the year 2003 after its merger with the Alice Springs’ Centralian College becoming the only Australian university to offer the full spectrum of education options from senior secondary through to Vocational Education Training, undergraduate and postgraduate degree programs. Nhulunbuy campusCharles Darwin University's Nhulunbuy Campus offers vocational education and training (VET) courses from certificate through to diploma level at Nhulunbuy. The University's expert faculty provides excellent instruction to the students in - business and office administration, information technology, children's services, training and assessment, engineering and numeracy and literacy. The classes are run from the joint DEET/CDU Nhulunbuy Training Centre which is well equipped with computer laboratories, a conference room, a workshop equipped for metal fabrication and automotive modules and an open learning centre, with computers and internet access for enrolled students. The students can avail the facilities of the student lounge to relax at any hour of the day.
