One of the oldest engineering colleges in India, the College of Engineering
(CAE) in Guindy (in Chennai) was started as Survey School in 1794. It gained the
status of college in 1859 and became the technical wing of the Anna University
in 1978. It has been offering BE degree programs for Mechanical Engineering for
about 114 years, Electrical Engineering for 78 years, Telecommunication and
Highway Engineering for 63 years and Printing Technology for 25 years.

Some of the most notable partners of the University are the UK government, government bodies of Germany, USAID, Ford Foundation, UNCHS and the European Economic Community. The students of the college have access to the rich library of Anna University, with over 90,000 volumes. The 3,200 students, enrolled in the various courses being run by the college, also have access to 500 journals subscribed by the college library. To commemorate the 200 years of CAE’s existence and academic excellence, the Department of Posts brought out a postage stamp in 2006. College of Engineering - Anna University (Main Campus)
