(CAE) in Guindy (in Chennai) was started as Survey School in 1794. It gained the
status of college in 1859 and became the technical wing of the Anna University
in 1978. It has been offering BE degree programs for Mechanical Engineering for
about 114 years, Electrical Engineering for 78 years, Telecommunication and
Highway Engineering for 63 years and Printing Technology for 25 years.

Anna University is rapidly gaining acclaim as the world-class education centre

Economic Community. The students of the college have access to the rich library
of Anna University, with over 90,000 volumes. The 3,200 students, enrolled in
the various courses being run by the college, also have access to 500 journals
subscribed by the college library. To commemorate the 200 years of CAE’s
existence and academic excellence, the Department of Posts brought out a postage
stamp in 2006.
College of Engineering - Anna University (Main Campus)
Situated in main campus of the Anna University in Guindy, CAE offers access
to a rich library that is equipped with digital and automated facilities. This
high-tech library connects all the colleges of Anna University.
Hordes of university facilities are available for CAE students such as Training
Center for Career Advancement, Ramanujan Computing Centre, health centre,
logistic centre, hostel and accommodation facilities, student affairs centre,
banking and postal services, cafeteria, boat club and even an auditorium.
Besides staff quarters, more than 2,500 students can live in university
campuses. There are separate accommodation facilities available for women. The
Alumni Centre in the university offers a strong network of former students
settled and working all over the world.
There is a cooperative store on-campus too and mini buses and vans owned by the
College are often available for industrial visits and educational trips that are
conducted from time to time. For practical training, undergraduate and
postgraduate students make use of specialized laboratories and workshops,
situated in the campus.
