  International Students and Scholars Office (ISSO) of Columbia University offers a range of servides to more than 8,500 international students, interns, scholars and their accompanying family members, from nearly 150 countries every year. The friendly staff here not only assists students in acquainting them about University policies and practices, regulatory and documentation matters and clarifying their queries, but also helps them in adjusting to a new academic environment, getting over culture shock.
  Social and cultural activities are organized for the international student community regularly. Students can also expect help in the case of personal and family requirements and services at ISSO. There is a central advisement service that evaluates the credentials of overseas students for Columbia Schools, faculty and departments. It also administers the designation of visiting scholars and scientists and offers international student and educational exchange services.
  At Columbia University, international students, researchers, visiting scholars and faculty can avail the immigration services of the Advisory staff that broadcasts timely alerts and updates to students and scholars, regarding the immigration rules and regulations. There are orientation programs and informational briefings, one day excursions to explore the city of New York, International Spouse Network to greet the spouses and children of the international students and scholars, an annual series of workshops on international taxation and advanced immigration matters to look forward to.
