Course Name

:

Master of Philosophy (Civil Engineering)

Course Description

:

The Master of Philosophy (Civil Engineering) research course develops, through the conduct of a supervised research project, the ability of a suitably qualified candidate to contribute to the knowledge and practice of engineering. At the completion of the assigned project, the candidate has to submit a written thesis presenting the results of the work, discussing their significance for the pertinent field of engineering.

Students are admitted to the course subject to successful completion of a qualifying program and enroll in one or both of the Masters Qualifying Program units undertaking a specified program of study. Successful completion qualifies students to proceed with the formal masters program. Failure to attain a satisfactory standard in the qualifying units renders a student ineligible for re-enrolment in the master program. It is a requirement for the students that two-thirds of this course is undertaken by research and only one-third by coursework.
