Fudan University, founded by Ma Xiang-bo in 1905, was initially named as the Fudan Public School. Beginning with a modest number of undergraduate programs, the University has now expanded in both strength of students and number of courses offered. Fudan University at present offers courses in numerous fields through its 17 schools and 4 independent departments namely, Environmental Science and Engineering, Physics, Macromolecular Science and Chemistry.

Thriving on its quality education the university is now counted among some of the most prominent academic institutions of advance education and academic research in southeast China. It provides Bachelor’s degrees in approximately 68 academic disciplines as well as Masters Degrees in 209 disciplines. Additionally, the university also offers Doctoral Degrees in twenty-two Level I and one hundred and thirty-five Level II academic programs besides 29 research stations which provide postdoctoral fellowships.
