The Government Law School (GLS), Established in 1855, has great men like Lokmanya Balgangadhar Tilak, Dr. B. R. Ambedkar, Chief Jutice M. C. Chagla and many other prominent personalities among its alumni. In 1860, it was affiliated to the University of Bombay. The college has had an equally illustrious faculty. Free India's first Law Minister, Dr. B. R. Ambedkar and Sir Bomanji Wadia among others, have been the distinguished Principals of the college.
The institution strives hard to impart fine and sound legal knowledge. Over the years the
Government Law College has been encouraging co-curricular activities, like Moot
Courts, debates, essay competitions and other activities which help in improving
the legal knowledge as well as their oratory and literary skills. It also has a
rich culture of music and theatre activities.
The college has been publishing a college magazine since 1930 and the ‘Law

a Seminar room and additional lecture rooms which are located in the Annex
Building that was completed in September 1988. In keeping with its principles of
being an educational institution with a rich heritage yet modern outlook, the College has remained
abreast with the changing times.

The college is situated in a busy, bustling area of Churchgate, Mumbai. It houses huge classrooms along with a library, auditorium and canteen. The college now has an annexe building with additional classrooms, seminar rooms and a library.
