The Harvard University is one of the oldest academic institutions of advance learning in the U.S. Dedicated towards providing quality education, job oriented programs and distinguished faculty. At present it is one of the most prominent higher education-providing institutions across the globe. Harvard College was established in the year 1636 by the colonial Massachusetts legislature. From a handful of pupils to current student strength of more than 18,000 students, the University has clearly grown tremendously.

Originally known as the "New College" or "the college at New Towne", it was renamed as Harvard College in 1639 after John Harvard, a clergyman who was the first benefactor of the institute. The first ever known official reference to Harvard College as a University took place in the new Massachusetts Constitution of 1780.
