The Biological Sciences and Bioengineering programme offered by IIT Kanpur provides a multidisciplinary research and teaching programme in modern Biology and Bioengineering. The Institute conducts various research programmes in the areas of developmental biology, bioinformatics, tissue engineering, human molecular genetics, genomics, structural biology, computational biology, bioremediation, and bioprocess engineering. The postgraduate program (M.Tech., BSBE) provides both introductory and advanced levels of teaching.

The first two semesters gives theory lectures, supported by laboratory exercises, while the third and fourth semesters is dedicated to research. The final two years focuses on the development of professional competence of the students on a broad spectrum of topics. The newly introduced B.Tech program in biological sciences and bioengineering provides a unique fusion of biology with other basic and engineering sciences. The goal of this program is to prepare the students, both in theory and practice, for leadership in the globally competitive fields of Life Science, Pharmaceutical, Biotechnology industry, academia and research.
