The Mechanical Engineering programme trains the students in the methods of
engineering science and in the application of these methods to analyse, conceive and design
engineering systems. The course deals with a number of engineering sciences, theoretical and experimental solution of physical problems and design
of systems relevant to the contemporary industrial world. This course's areas of specialisation include Energy
Conversion and Power Systems, Mechanics of Solids and Stress Analysis,
Industrial Engineering, Manufacturing Science,; Automatic Controls and
Engineering Design and so on.
Special course-oriented laboratories enable the students to undertake various
experiments. The mechanical engineering department provides a postgraduate programme leading
to M. Tech and Ph. D. degrees in four broad streams namely Solid Mechanics and Design,
Fluid Mechanics and Thermal Sciences, Manufacturing Sciences and Mechatronics.
