Established in 1876, Johns Hopkins University is considered to be one of the top most research institutes in the arena of medicine, engineering and public health. In fact, it was one of the first American universities to be modeled after the European research institutes. Named after its primary benefactor—Johns Hopkins, a Baltimore based merchant, the school now admits more than 19,000 students in its three main campuses. Another interesting fact about this university is that it is the recipient of more federal research and development funds than any other university in America. This benefit can be attributed to its top-ranking medicine and public health schools. In fact, about one-quarter of all federal research money that is allotted to over 25 US schools of public health goes into the pockets of Bloomberg School of Public Health. Homewood Campus

The Homewood Campus is the main campus of the Johns Hopkins University. Its sprawling tress, brick red buildings and interconnecting walkways together give a peaceful country feel to this campus which is situated in the middle of an urban cityscape. The university has its own shuttle bus service that can take you to any of the downtown spots. The historical Homewood Museum is also located within the campus.
