Lancaster University (officially 'The University of Lancaster') is a British university in Lancaster, Lancashire, England. The Lancaster University was established in 1964. The University places great emphasis on a strong student experience and gives students access to academics who are experts in their fields, whilst providing an integrative environment that is conducive to learning for a culturally and ethnically diverse student population. Lancaster is a collegiate university, with its main functions divided between three central faculties and nine colleges. The faculties perform research and provide centralised lectures to students. Over 1,500 international students from over 120 different countries form a part of this growing community. There are supermarkets, bookshop, a bakery, newsagents, hairdresser, office and two banks all located on campus. Lancaster also works closely with its partners in the region to extend the range of academic provision. It actively seeks to collaborate with leading institutions in the region and beyond, to be involved in research, learning and dissemination. Shops on campus include a supermarket, a charity shop and St. Johns Hospice, Waterstone's bookshop. The campus is a very safe place to live and socialise. There is a wide selection of restaurants, sandwich and salad bars and takeaways. In addition to various coffee shops, there is a Chinese restaurant, an Indian restaurant, a pizza parlor and burger bar.
