Established by Act No. 41 of 1997 of the Madhya Pradesh Legislature, the
National Law Institute University (NLIU) was launched in 1998. It uses
multidisciplinary approach to teach and train students in latest professional
skills and impart modernistic legal education. Right from its inception, the
University offers five-year integrated B.A., LL.B. course for students who have
completed their studies at 10+2 level.
With emphasis on practical experience in their chosen field, NLIU’s programs
have clerkship and internship programmes as the integral part of their
curriculums. It has an excellent track record of placing its students
successfully in some of the prestigious law offices in India and abroad. Some of
the places where internship and placement opportunities have been secured for
NLIU students in the past include:
Designed by internally-acclaimed architects, the new campus complex of NLIU is situated on a hillock. NLIU offers separate hostels and residential facilities for men and women. Each resident has one separate room, equipped with big and spacious steel almirah, cupboard, modular computer and study table. Laundry services and 24-hour hot water supply are available.
The Halls of Residence have a common room with colour television and cable network, landscaped lawns, reading room, gymnasium and indoor sports facilities. Mess facility offers different menu for each day of the week, including North Indian, South Indian and Chinese food. Quality of food is good and meals provided include breakfast, lunch, evening tea with snacks and dinner.
Non-vegetarian food is served four times a week. During examinations, late night snacks are also served. Sundays are reserved for special treats. Women’s Hall features a beautiful Japanese Rock Garden and week-long festival on Women’s Day is organized on campus, where a faculty member addresses women converns such as sexual harassment.
A new Hall of Research is being constructed for senior students and research scholars. Discipline management and other activities are looked after by various committees, where students have an active participation. Ragging is strictly prohibited. To help fresher adjust to the campus environment, an orientation week is conducted in the beginning of the new academic calendar.
Academic support services include Gyan Mandir, which is a centrally air-conditioned building that houses a library, class rooms, a cyber network centre with internet facility and faculty chambers. The academic block with translucent emerald green dome comprises conference halls, faculty lounges and moot court practice.
Besides the above, the campus also houses administrative block, guest house, cafeteria, healthcare and sport facilities and banking facilities. Conveyance and transport facilities are available for students, faculty and staff members for commutingas well as for student activities such as clinical programs, court visits, legal aid work and field studies. Twice a week, buses go to city as a scheduled departure.
