National Law School of India University (NLSIU), Bangalore became functional
in 1988 as the first Indian Law University. Established under the 1986 statute
of Karnataka Legislature, it is the only law school in India that is sponsored
by the Bar Council of India. To provide high-quality legal education, the Law School
has forged unique partnership with the Bar, the Bench and the Academia. Right
from its inception, leading lawyers, academicians and judges have associated
with NLSIU in different ways.

The National Law School of India University also offers LLM programme. LLB students have to go through rigorous internship starting from third year onwards, as part of the program, where they work with lawyers and assist them in trial and appellate work. Students with strong academic credentials may get opportunity to work as law clerks with the Supreme Court and High Court Judges. Besides participating in research activities, the students can participate in workshops and seminars conducted regularly in fully equipped International Training Centre. National Law School of India University (Main Campus)Situated in Nagarbhavi, NLSIU campus is around 10 km from the Bangalore City railway station. Sprawled across 18 acres area, it is known as the Jnana Bharati Campus. Providing staff and student accommodation facilities, the campus houses:
A fully-residential University, NLSIU has provided separate halls of
residence and mess facilities for men and women. The campus also houses Shri
Narayana Rao Melgiri National Law Library, which offers a rich reference
resource in form of electronic databases, books and journals. Hostels, academic
area and libraries offer wireless internet connectivity to
students. Each NLSIU student is expected to have a laptop that may be taken on
loan through banks, on the guarantee of the Law School.
