Course Name:Bachelor of Design(Fashion) Course Description:The Bachelor of Design (Fashion) program encourages an innovative approach to design supported by technical proficiency and industry expertise. Graduates are flexible in their ability to respond to changing market needs and opportunities and will be competent in taking on design leadership roles within the fashion industry. The fashion program works closely with industry professionals on specific projects and as guest lecturers who are invited to share their expertise and experiences with the students. The dynamic and multifaceted nature of the fashion industry is reflected in the structure of the fashion program. In recognition of the diversity within the industry, students at third year level are able to select to specialise in either Exploratory Design or Applied Design. The Exploratory Design specialisation aims to extend the boundaries of fashion design by providing the opportunity to explore challenging fashion concepts that are focussed on new levels of design thinking. Experimentation is paramount as a design mechanism and may involve research and application in materials, pattern making, construction techniques, design methodologies and forms of presentation. The Applied Design specialisation is strongly focussed on industry mechanisms and in developing ideas and concepts that are commercially relevant whilst celebrating innovation. You will work on industry focussed projects concerning new products, developments and systems. You will develop niche market concepts; your input includes extensive research and development of design ideas resulting in prototype collections supported by marketing strategies and merchandising plans. The Bachelor of Design (Fashion) community is vibrant and exciting. Students from a diverse range of backgrounds and experiences choose to study at RMIT, including international students from around the globe. All academic staff apply expertise to their teaching gained through discipline specific research activities, community projects and/or running their own design practices.
