The Swiss Hotel Management School is credited to be the largest English speaking hospitality management school in Switzerland. This school has a worldwide reputation so it is not surprising to find SHMS students in top hospitality positions not only in Switzerland, but, the world over. SHMS has two campuses—the Caux-Palace at Montreux and the Mont-Blanc Palace at Leysin. The institute is also a member of the Swiss Education Group which is an alliance of the premier Swiss Hotel Management Schools. Its students are therefore entitled to special benefits that come with being associated with an SEG member school. In fact, the SEG Career Advisory office is responsible for many SHMS graduate placements in top hotels worldwide.
Education at the Swiss Hotel Management School provides students a chance to experience the Swiss hospitality tradition along with top quality management techniques. SHMS offers a range of hospitality programs for its students. These include Hospitality Management, Events Management and Tourism Management among others.
Students also get a chance to earn International qualifications from three countries that include Switzerland, United States of America and United Kingdom. The Bachelor’s and Master’s programs of this school are awarded by the University of Derby, a top ranking UK based university which provides internationally accredited hospitality and tourism programs. The Diplomas and Advanced Diplomas in Travel, Tourism, Hotel and Events Management are awarded from the SHMS University Center. Students can also opt for American Hotel and Lodging Association Diploma in Hospitality Management. The study module followed at SHMS is a mix of theory and practical which is essential if one wants to succeed in this field. Therefore, after a 5 month academic term, students get the chance to go in for a 4-6 months paid internship program (in Switzerland or abroad) which gives them practical knowledge about this field.

Caux – Palace Campus

Even the location of SHMS is steeped in history. The main campus of this school is none other than the Caux-Palace—a place where the very reputation of Swiss hospitality was born. Caux-Palace was one of the oldest hotels in Switzerland and is an establishment in itself. Taking off from this very source of the “Swiss Experience”, Caux-Palace is now home to thousands of students from over 60 nations. In 2003, the SHMS management purchased another campus in order to accommodate the increasing number of students.
The Caux-Palace campus accommodates Diploma and Higher Diploma students. While the Leysin campus generally takes in students who are in their final terms of the B.A. or M.A. programs. Both the campuses provides state-of-the-art facilities for its students which include free Internet access to all within the school campus and the online library services of the University of Derby. B.A. and M.A. students can also access the University of Derby’s virtual learning platform.
It is not only work at SHMS. The school understands that leisure and group activities are essential for an all-round development of its students. Therefore, the Student’s Committee of SHMS also organizes a range of student activities, such as international evenings, ski trips, in-house parties and BBQs. The leisure and study facilities of SHMS are one of the best in the world and includes a student’s bar and a student’s lounge, learning and resource center, production/training kitchen, training restaurants/cafeterias, demonstration and lecture theater, as well as a gym, and cinema and TV lounge.
