University of Abertay, Dundee was established in 1888. Today, there are over 5000 students from over 70 countries enrolled in the University. Abertay has been ranked best university in environmental research in Scotland. It features multi-million pound Library and Student Centre. Abertay is well known for its innovative and leading-edge courses in computer arts and computer games technology. With over 1200 computers on campus, the student to computer ratio is about four to one, which is one of the highest in the UK.

Being a pioneer, Abertay has come up with the first graduate enterprise centre in Scotland, known as Embreonix. This centre helps students in setting up their own businesses. Internationally recognized for some of path breaking discoveries, Abertay is home to world leading research teams that are working on topics such as ‘green’ business practices, food and nutrition science, the Urban Water Technology Centre addressing latest drainage and pollution-control technology, psychology, bioinformatics, Scottish economy, and computer arts and digital media.

Accommodation for Students (AFS) ranks Dundee as the cheapest Scottish University city. Dundee is known for its creative industries sector comprising 200 companies, £20m digital media park, research work in life sciences sector including new treatments for cancer and AIDS, and UK's most flourishing art projects in the Contemporary Arts. It is also the birthplace of popular unique computer games such as Lemmings, F1 2000 and Grand Theft Auto. The University emphasizes on information organization and management, communication skills including seminars, presentations and public speaking, group projects, part-time work and summer placements to make its graduates more employable and enable them to succeed in their chosen careers.

It also offers Careers Service to its students, guiding them about CV and interview advice and job hunting. Abertay University has close links with further education colleges such as Aberdeen College, Adam Smith College, Angus College, Dundee College, Elmwood College, James Watt College, Lauder College and Perth College, allowing direct entry to their further education students to later years of Abertay's degree level courses. The University also offers bridging programme, Student Academic Support centre and other support mechanisms to the enrolled students.

University of Abertay Dundee- Main Campus

Situated centrally in Dundee, all the buildings on the Abertay campus are within a quarter of a mile of each other. It is easily accessible with bus and train stops just a few minutes walk away. Students will find everything they need, including shops, bars, clubs, cinemas and theatres, close at hand. The buildings range from 16th century castles to modernistic award-winning library.

Most of the academic departments, Student Centre, offices and research centres are situated on the Bell Street. The University provides complete student support including advice on accommodation to managing finances to academic and personal counselling. The University of Abertay has a friendly and diverse student community having different backgrounds and nationalities, giving a cosmopolitan flavour to its campus.

Dundee is Scotland’s fourth largest city with a scenic location at the north coast of the mouth of the Tay Estuary. It is well-connected with the cities of Edinburgh, Glasgow and Aberdeen and has earned the title of the City of Discovery, due to the excellent works it has come up with, in the fields of life sciences and creative industries. The campus benefits from the fact that Dundee has one of the highest student ratios per head of population anywhere in the UK, as it has evolved a vibrant and lively nightlife, leisure and cultural facilities to suit the youth.

The students can visit the Dundee Rep theatre, the only full-time acting ensemble and contemporary dance company in Scotland and can witness a number of internationally renowned cultural events here such as Dundee Guitar Festival, Scotland’s International Film Festival for Children and Young People, Dundee Blues Bonanza and Dundee Flower & Food Festival and Discovery. Dundee is also home to the finest shopping arcades in Scotland, including the £150m Overgate shopping centre.
