The University of Bath received its Royal Charter in 1966, however, its roots can be traced back to the Bristol Trade School of 1856. The University is recognised by the United States Government, and has links and exchanges with prestigious Higher Education institutions in Europe, North and South America; and Asia at undergraduate and postgraduate level. University of Bath (Main Campus)The University of Bath's main campus is located on Claverton Down, two kilometres from Bath. The campus is set in a safe and friendly structure, with strong student services and good social opportunities. Buildings are constructed in a functional, modernistic style. The campus was begun in 1964. At the centre is the Library and Learning Centre, a 24/7 facility offering information and research assistance, computing services, as well as books and journals. A number of outlets, including restaurants, bars, a small supermarket and an oriental supermarket are situated around the structure. The Institute of Contemporary Interdisciplinary Arts runs programmes of professional performances, exhibitions, talks; workshops and classes open to the general public, alongside activities for students. The eastern part of the campus is dominated by the Sports Training Village. Facilities at the university include a fitness suite, four squash courts, indoor swimming pools and athletics tracks, multi-purpose sport halls and centres for sports science and sports medicine. Grounds cater for football, rugby union, field hockey and lacrosse. The student residences include Westwood, Eastwood and Solsbury and Marlborough courts. The University is home to three student media outlets: Student Impact; a radio station, a bi-weekly student newspaper, 1449AM URB; and a television station, Campus TV.
