The University of Leicester was founded in 1921 and gained full degree-awarding powers in 1957 when it was granted its Royal Charter. Being one of the older universities in UK, it has grown from a university of nine students to the one catering to over 19,000 students from over 150 countries. The library has over 10,000 e-books that can be found by searching the Library catalogue. There are two other major collections of e-books available - Early English Books Online (EEBO) and Eighteenth Century Collection Online (ECCO). Specific titles can be searched for from within each collection. The University of Leicester offers a wide choice of accommodation, in both halls of residence (where meals are provided) and in self-catering units. The University guarantees accommodation to all new international students. The Unversity provides sporets and recreational facilities for its students to help them relax and build an overall personality. The students have at their disposal Leicester City football club, the Tigers rugby union club and Leicestershire County Cricket Club.
