The University of Leicester was founded in 1921 and gained full degree-awarding powers in 1957 when it was granted its Royal Charter. Being one of the older universities in UK, it has grown from a university of nine students to the one catering to over 19,000 students from over 150 countries. Each year, there are more than 1500 students from outside the United Kingdom studying the full range of subjects and degrees courses available.

The University is an international centre of learning with a worldwide reputation offering undergraduate degrees, masters courses and research programmes. Many postgraduate courses are available by distance learning.
