The University of Wales, Newport, established in 1975 as the 'Gwent College of Higher Education' adopted its present name in the year 2002 after becoming affiliated to the University of Wales and being awarded full university status. Allt-yr-yn campus is situated in a quiet, residential area effectively connected with the Newport centre.
