The University of Wales, Newport, established in 1975 as the 'Gwent College of Higher Education' adopted its present name in the year 2002 after becoming affiliated to the University of Wales and being awarded full university status. The university is one of the fastest growing universities in the UK. It has had significant increases in the number of applications, contrasting against the national trend which has seen falling numbers. The Times Good University Guide ranked the university at no. 78 amongst all top universities in the UK in 2008.

University of Wales, Newport- Caerleon Campus
The Caerleon campus is the main campus of the University of Wales, Newport. The university is in talks to renovate the campus and set up a new £50 million site. The new site will be home to the university’s business school, as well as the art, media and design school.
