Paediatrics is a branch of medical science which deals with the medical care of infants, children, and adolescents. Paediatricians are responsible for treating chronic, as well as complex medical conditions, which may include genetic variance, cardiology, congenital defects, immunology, and oncology- leukemias and lymphomas. Technically, with the exception of geriatrics, every stream of the adult doctor exists in the pediatric field. However, neonatology and adolescent medicine are unique to the paediatric field. As this branch of medical science deals with infants and minors, informed consent, guardianship, and legal responsibility are major areas of concern.
